The program explores three topics:

People: While dressed in colonial clothing, students will learn about the lives of those living in London Town, both free and unfree, by exploring how they would have interacted in a social center of colonial life: the tavern of the William Brown House.

Work: The work that men, women, and children would have done to support themselves, their families, and their community are explored through hands-on activities such as hearth cooking in the Lord Mayor's Tenement and woodworking in the Carpenter Shop.

Trade: London Town's role as a British colonial seaport and its connection to a global trade network are discovered in the Seaport station.  Here students create rope at the Ropewalk, and examine objects similar to those found by archaeologists at the Rumney-West Tavern site in the Exhibit.

This historic farm is a 90 minute drive, so plan accordingly! Pack water, wear close-toed shoes, and apply sunscreen. The facility is re-emerging after COVID and once prided themselves on being a "touch-everything" museum.  They have plans for still engaging the kids even if it means the kids don plastic gloves at times to touch shared objects.  Our guided experience will include a tour of the farm with activities, some history of the food, migration, and plantations in 19th Century Maryland, a visit to animals such as chickens and guinea hogs, experiential learning with tools and objects used in industry and agriculture, as well as a look into the history of the Underground Railroad network. Parents are free but expected to chaperone.  We will be the only group on-site that day.  Toddlers are free to attend. Children ages 6-17 will each be $15.  Pack a bagged lunch as we will have the final hour to eat at a covered pavilion and explore on our own before vacating at 1:00. I hope you will find time in your schedule as this living history experience looks to be fantastic!
