Germano’s offers an exciting field trip concept that combines hands-on learning with an unforgettable gastronomic experience. Germano’s will present a pasta-making demonstration, as we narrate not only the process but also provide a historical and cultural context engaging the participants in a lively discussion that will allow them to make their own connections between what they have learned and will be learning in social studies, math and history. Students will have the opportunity to participate in the cooking process. The presentation will be followed by a lunch in which the students will enjoy the pasta that they have helped to produce (also included is a soft drink and ice cream (gelato).
(Germano’s pasta-making demonstration and lunch has been recognized by the Maryland State Office of Tourism as a “new attraction not to be missed” and appears in the State’s Field Trip Guide.)
We will arrive at 12:00, tour the museum, and then the kids will participate in a 50-minute workshop at 1:15 (includes a brief introduction to visionary art and the corresponding inspirational artist).
Honey, I Shrunk My Lunch Workshop:
In this workshop, students will create a pocket-
sized lunch drawing on a Shrinky Dink inspired
by artist Jill Orlov and her miniature dining room.
Each student will sketch their favorite lunch food
on a piece of magical Shrinky Dink plastic, then
watch it shrink before their very eyes in a toaster
oven.
If the weather is nice, we can also have lunch on Federal Hill.

Join us for a Spring Farm Tour! After learning all about Basic Plant Life Cycle, each student will plant their very own 10" vegetable garden “clock”, complete with a tomato transplant in the center of the clock as the arms. Then we will plant different types of seeds from green beans, squash, sunflower, potato eyes, onion sets and pumpkins.
The gardens can be taken home and they will be given instructions on how and where to transplant their garden plants to potentially harvest over $50 worth of healthy fresh food.
We will also visit the farm animals and learn about what the farmer feeds the animals, such as soybeans, corn, hay and grains to make bacon, cheese, ham and foods that are part of a healthy and nutritious diet.
A visit to the Bee Keeper will explain to students the role honey bees play in pollination and honey production.
Germano's Pasta-Making Demonstration
When: Thursday, April 13, 2016, 12:30 p.m.
Where: Germano's Piattini, 300 S. High Street (at Fawn Street), Baltimore, MD, 21202
Cost*: $22.50 per person (this includes the tax and tip)
Sign up and payment due by: March 30th.
Tour includes the Museum's exhibit gallery. Visit exhibits on a Maryland astronaut and the MD Air National Guard. Groups will visit the Museum's aircraft collection at Strawberry Point, located at the east end of the airport where visitors have a front row view of the runway and air traffic landing and departing and the opportunity to see jobs in action that keep a general aviation airport operating daily.
The general 90 minute tour of the indoor exhibits and outdoor flightline of 15 airplanes is $3 per student. There is an optional one hour interactive STEM program with rockets for grades 3 - 5 for $6 per student and a one hour program assembling a student size B26 model for grades 6 - 12 for $7 per student.
It's Rocket Science", Grades K– 5.
Features the dynamics of flight. Students are recruited to demonstrate the principles of flight as developed by the Wright brothers, the four forces of flight, Bernoulli’s Principle, and Newton’s Third Law of Motion. After a brief presentation on rocketry, each student designs and builds a paper rocket. The rockets are then launched and propelled by means of a pressurized launcher through a designated target. With each attempt, students apply concepts of motion, trajectory and stability in refining optimal designs.
B-26 Assembly Team Project- Grades 6-12
Students will assume the roles of aviation experts involved in an effort to restore the remains of the B-26 Marauder “Lady Kate”, their jobs mirroring the original B-26 assembly workforce in Tool Crib, Sub-Assembly, Transportation, Platform Assembly, and Final Assembly. This STEM exercise will incorporate World War II history setting the story of the aircraft, Geography setting the locations the aircraft flew, and Economics setting the tone of World War II homefront workers. Pre-visit preparation (A study guide provided with info on geography, so students are aware where the planes were used in WWII, economics, and there is an engineering component with vocabulary and STEM elements so that students are familiar with airplane parts prior to participating in the activity.) of students as instructed by this program’s Teacher Manual is requested prior to students participating in the program.
If you have an advanced 5th grader, they can choose the B-26 if you prefer also. Note the B-26 does have some pre-visit prep. All parents will stay with children. They will also be needed to drive their children to the outdoor aircraft viewing (weather permitting). Lunch can be had picnic style (indoor space may or may not be available). When groups split, so will parents. If you have a child in both groups, we will pre-determine what group you prefer to be in so there are appropriate numbers for each group of children. Total trip will be about 3 hours (including time for lunch). We do need a minimum of 5 students for Its Rocket Science & 8 students for the B-26 programs.
Come travel back in time learning about daily life during the turn of the 20th century through various hands-on activities. Kids will compare and contrast this lifestyle with their 21st century lifestyles. We will learn about daily activities and work experiences or artisan traders and factory labors of this time.
